CVR - Coronavirus Vaccines R&D Roadmap

Overview

The Landscape is a database that compiles and summarizes publicly available information on the global R&D pipeline of coronavirus vaccine candidates, as defined in the Coronavirus Vaccines R&D Roadmap (CVR). Vaccine candidates profiled in the Landscape are designed to provide protection against SARS-CoV-2, MERS-CoV, or multiple viruses within the Coronaviridae family. CIDRAP receives support for development and maintenance of the Landscape from CEPI, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations.

Methods

Potential coronavirus vaccine candidates are identified through searching the literature (PubMed and Google Scholar databases) for published articles and preprints, as well as clinicaltrials.gov. For inclusion in the Landscape, candidates must have been tested in an animal model or human clinical trial, and all information posted on the Landscape comes from publicly available sources. Candidates are initially classified according to the vaccine goal, “SARS-CoV-2”, “MERS-CoV”, or “Broadly Protective Vaccine”, determined as follows:

  • SARS-CoV-2 Vaccines: Candidates in the SARS-CoV-2 category must have data demonstrating a response (either immunologic or clinical) to multiple SARS-CoV-2 viruses.
  • MERS-CoV Vaccines: Candidates in the MERS-CoV category must have a demonstrated response to any MERS-CoV virus.
  • Broadly Protective Vaccines: Candidates in the “Broadly Protective Vaccine” category have data demonstrating a response to multiple viruses within the Coronaviridae family (e.g. SARS and SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV-2 and MERS, etc).

Relevant data on each vaccine candidate are recorded, including phase, development location, clinical trial location, vaccine platform, antigen(s), adjuvant(s), etc, which can be found by clicking on the individual candidate in the overview page. Candidates are considered “active” if there has been a publication, clinical trial update, or information on the developer website within the last three years.

The Landscape data can be searched by selecting the database view and entering keywords or using the categorical drop down menus. All data can be downloaded as a CSV for further investigation. Landscape data are updated monthly by the CIDRAP CVR team, and content is periodically reviewed by the CVR Task Force, composed of experts in vaccinology from around the world. The date of the last update is captured at the top of the overview page of the Landscape. Questions, comments, or suggestions for the Landscape can be sent to the CVR team using the “Provide Feedback” button at the top of the overview page.
